Eurozone construction output declined by 1.9% year-on-year in January 2026, the sharpest drop since October 2024, following an upwardly revised 0.7% increase in December. Production contracted in both building construction (-8.9% vs. -4.2% previously) and civil engineering (-4.2% vs. +1.3%), while growth slowed in specialised construction activities (up 1.1% vs. 2% in the prior month).
Among the major economies, output fell in France (-1.5% vs. -3.2% previously) and Spain (-9.9% vs. +6.3%), whereas Germany recorded a modest expansion of 1.1%, improving from 0.2% in December. On a monthly basis, overall construction output edged down 0.1% in January, after a 0.7% increase in the previous month.
