The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors the shipping rates for transporting dry commodities, experienced a 0.4% increase, reaching its highest level since October 2, at 1,975 points. This uptick was supported by gains across all vessel categories. Specifically, the capesize index—responsible for carrying large cargoes such as iron ore and coal, typically around 150,000 tons—climbed 0.2% to 3,731 points, marking its highest point since July 2024. Similarly, the panamax index, which is associated with transporting 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, rose by 0.6% to a ten-week high of 1,410 points. Additionally, the supramax index for smaller vessels increased by 3 points, reaching a near two-week high of 939 points.
