Chile’s Industrial Output Rebounds in September

In September 2025, Chile experienced a 1.5% year-on-year increase in its industrial production index, marking a recovery from the 1.8% decrease recorded in August. A notable 5% rise in manufacturing output was a key factor, fueled by significant growth in specific sectors—food production saw a 13% increase, and there was a remarkable 22.7% rise in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment. Additionally, the manufacturing of machinery and equipment itself climbed 14.6%. However, the production of paper and paper products decreased by 4.6%, which partially countered the overall gain.

The utilities sector demonstrated a 1% growth, with increments in electricity (1.1%) and water distribution (1.5%), despite a 1.4% decline in gas production. In contrast, mining output fell by 1.8%. This downturn was mainly due to a 3.5% reduction in metallic mining, primarily stemming from a 4.5% decrease in copper extraction. Although energy resource mining decreased by 3.1%, non-metallic mining experienced a robust 9.8% increase. When adjusted for seasonal variations, the overall industrial output registered a slight decline of 0.2% compared to the previous month of August.
