Speculators Deepen Bearish Bets on Nasdaq 100 Futures, CFTC Data Show

Traders have sharply increased their bearish exposure to the Nasdaq 100, according to the latest Commitments of Traders data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). As of 29 May 2026, speculative net positions in Nasdaq 100 futures have fallen to -6.1K, compared with a previous reading of -1.4K.

The move indicates that speculative market participants — typically hedge funds and other leveraged traders — have expanded their net short stance on the tech-heavy index. The shift from -1.4K to -6.1K suggests rising caution or increased expectations of potential downside in major U.S. technology and growth stocks tied to the Nasdaq 100. Investors will now be watching to see whether this growing pessimism is a short-term positioning adjustment or the beginning of a more prolonged bearish trend in U.S. equity index futures.
