FX.co ★ Baltic Dry Index at Near 1-Week Low

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for vessels transporting dry bulk commodities, declined for a third straight session on Tuesday, slipping about 0.5% to a near one-week low of 3,205 points, pressured by weakness in the larger vessel segments. The capesize index, covering vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, fell 0.7% to 5,459 points, while the panamax index, which reflects rates for ships hauling around 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, dropped 23 points to 2,321 points. In contrast, the supramax index edged up 7 points to 1,577 points.
