The US core inflation rate, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, eased to 2.6% in June 2026, down from a seven-month high of 2.9% in May and below the market forecast of 2.8%. The key shelter index rose 3.3%, a slight slowdown from the 3.4% increase recorded in May. Other categories posting notable gains included airline fares (+26.5%), medical care (+2%), recreation (+2.8%), and household furnishings and operations (+2.5%). On a monthly basis, core consumer prices were unchanged, following a 0.2% increase in May and falling short of expectations for another 0.2% rise.
