Bulgaria Inflation Rate Eases in July

Bulgaria’s annual inflation rate slowed to 4.4% in July 2026, down from 5.4% in June, according to preliminary estimates. The deceleration was driven primarily by weaker price increases in transport, where inflation eased to 12.4% from 16.8%, and in food, where price growth slowed to 1.4% from 2.4%.

Price growth also moderated in several other categories: recreation and culture (7.4% vs 10.8%), restaurants and hotels (9.3% vs 9.6%), education (9.2% vs 9.4%), health (4% vs 4.3%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (5.7% vs 6.7%), furnishings (0.3% vs 0.4%), and insurance and financial services (0.3% vs 2.7%).

In contrast, inflation picked up slightly in housing and utilities, rising to 5.1% from 5%, while the decline in clothing and footwear prices became less pronounced (-0.4% vs -1%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.7% in July, recovering from a 0.9% drop in June.
