Chicago PMI Rises to 57.6 in July, Signaling Stronger Midwest Manufacturing Momentum

The Chicago Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) in the United States edged higher in July 2026, indicating a further strengthening in business activity in the Midwest. The index rose to 57.6 in July from 56.7 in June 2026, according to data updated on 31 July 2026.

With the PMI remaining above the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, July’s uptick suggests that manufacturing and related business conditions in the Chicago region continued to improve month over month. The increase from June’s 56.7 reading underscores ongoing resilience in regional economic activity at the start of the third quarter.
