FX.co ★ Portugal Unemployment Holds at 5.7%

Portugal’s unemployment rate stood at 5.7% in July 2026, unchanged from June. The gender gap persisted, with unemployment at 6.4% for women versus a record low of 4.9% for men. The adult unemployment rate remained stable at 4.6%, while youth unemployment was 20.1%. The number of unemployed fell by 2,700 to 320,200, but employment also declined, down 9,900 to 5.67 million. Consequently, the employment rate slipped from 66.3% to 66.1%, and the labor force participation rate eased from 70.3% to 70.1%. At the same time, the broader labor underutilization rate—which includes the unemployed, underemployed, and marginally attached workers—rose from 9.3% to 9.5%.
