Malaysia's construction sector witnessed a 12.9% growth year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, a deceleration from the 16.6% surge recorded in the first quarter. This represents the most sluggish growth rate since the fourth quarter of 2023. Most sectors experienced a slowdown, including residential construction, which grew by 13.9% compared to 27.0% in the previous quarter, contributing 22.8% to the overall construction activities. Non-residential construction rose by 16.2%, down from 21.0% earlier, accounting for 28.2% of the activity. Additionally, special trade activities increased by 22.2%, a decrease from 35.9%, representing 11.9% of the total. Conversely, civil engineering projects saw a significant uptick in growth, accelerating to 7.6% from 3.7%, and accounted for the largest share of construction activities at 37.1%.
