The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, a key indicator of shipping rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, experienced a decline of approximately 0.6%, settling at 2,038 points on Monday. This follows a three-day period of gains and is attributed to downward pressure from the larger vessel segments. Specifically, the capesize index, which deals with large cargoes of about 150,000 tons, such as iron ore and coal, also ended its three-day ascent, decreasing by 0.8% to 3,317 points. The panamax index, responsible for 60,000 to 70,000-ton cargoes of coal or grain, fell for the second consecutive day, dropping 1.3% to reach a one-month low of 1,614 points. In contrast, the supramax index, representing smaller vessels, saw a 0.4% increase to 1,325 points, marking its seventh consecutive day of growth.
