In September 2025, Latvia experienced a widening trade deficit, reaching EUR 356 million compared to EUR 248 million in the same month the previous year. This was largely due to a 13.5% surge in imports, totaling EUR 2,091 million. The increase in imports was primarily driven by a rise in the purchase of machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment, vehicles, chemicals, mineral products, and vegetables. Conversely, exports grew at a slower pace of 8.8%, amounting to EUR 1,735 million, with significant contributions from increased sales of vehicles, vegetables, live animals and animal products, wood and wood products, and base metals.
