Baltic Dry Index Falls for 2nd Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, an indicator monitoring the shipping rates for vessels conveying dry commodities, declined for the second consecutive day on Tuesday, decreasing approximately 0.6% to a low of 2,072 points—its weakest level since November 6. This decline was primarily influenced by the larger vessel segment. Specifically, the capesize index, which generally handles 150,000-ton shipments like iron ore and coal, experienced a reduction for the second straight session, falling by 2.2% to 3,192 points. Conversely, the panamax index, commonly responsible for transporting 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, increased by 1.1%, reaching a peak not seen since October 29 at 1,865 points. Meanwhile, the supramax index edged up by 17 points, attaining a position of 1,344 points.
