In October 2025, New Zealand saw a slight increase of 0.2% in electronic card transactions, reaching NZD 6.90 billion on a seasonally adjusted month-over-month basis. An upturn in consumer spending was observed across several sectors, with consumables rising by 0.8% and fuel by 0.5%, while services remained stable. Conversely, sectors such as durables experienced a minor decline of 0.1%, hospitality fell by 1.4%, apparel decreased by 0.6%, and vehicles dropped by 1.2%. On an annual level, total electronic card spending went up by 0.8% in October, following a previous 1% increase from the month before, indicating consistent but modest growth in consumer expenditure.
