Japan's trade surplus experienced a decline, settling at JPY 105.7 billion in December 2025, compared to JPY 120.3 billion in the same period the previous year. This figure is significantly below the market's projected increase to JPY 357 billion. Exports saw a 5.1% year-on-year rise, reaching a record JPY 10,411.5 billion, continuing a growth trend for the fourth month, although falling slightly short of the anticipated 6.1%. On the other hand, imports climbed by 5.3% to hit an 11-month high of JPY 10,305.8 billion, exceeding the expected 3.6% increase and marking the fourth consecutive month of growth.
