Consumer confidence in the Netherlands experienced a further decline in January 2026, dropping to -23 from -21 in December, indicating worsening sentiment among households. Notably, perceptions of the economic climate have deteriorated, with the index decreasing to -40 from -35 in the previous month. This reflects increasing pessimism regarding economic conditions. Assessments of the economic situation over the last twelve months also fell, moving from -46 to -49, while expectations for the upcoming year worsened from -24 to -32. In contrast, households reported a slight improvement in their financial situation over the past year, with the index rising to -9 from -10, though their outlook for the next year has softened, declining from 4 to 2. The willingness to make purchases has also decreased slightly, from -11 to -12, and opinions on whether it is a favorable time for significant purchases have further deteriorated, going from -26 to -28.
