Bulgaria Retail Sales Growth at 11-Month High

In December 2025, Bulgaria witnessed a significant year-on-year increase in retail sales, climbing by 7.7% compared to a 3.1% rise in November. This represents the most substantial growth in retail activity observed in eleven months. Notably, sales surged in sectors such as automotive fuel and lubricants, which grew by 11.8% compared to 10.3% the previous month, and non-food products excluding fuel, which jumped by 15.7% from 5.9% in November. Within these categories, non-specialized stores saw an impressive rise of 16.4% from 8.9%, while sales in textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather increased by 8.6% from 5.1%. Additionally, there was a remarkable 29.3% boost in household appliances, furniture, and other household goods, up from 15.3%, and a 16.3% rise in audio, video, computer, and communication equipment, compared to 14.7% previously. Conversely, the food, beverages, and tobacco sector continued to experience a decline, falling by 4.6% from a previous decrease of 2%. On a month-to-month basis, retail sales rose by 1.6% in December, following an upward revision to a 0.2% increase in the prior period.
