Chile Annual Inflation Slows in January

In January 2026, Chile experienced a reduction in its annual inflation rate, which dropped to 2.8% from the previous 3.5% in December. The most significant price increases were observed in the sectors of restaurants and lodging, which saw a rise of 6.3%, followed by education at 5.4% and healthcare at 4.9%. Prices for food increased by 4.1%, while housing and utilities went up by 4.0%. Conversely, transport costs experienced a decrease of 1.1%. Deflation was also noted in the clothing and footwear sector, with prices falling by 4.6%, and in insurance and financial services, which decreased by 1.9%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.4% in January, bouncing back from a 0.2% decrease in December.
