North Macedonia Trade Deficit Narrows in December

In December 2025, North Macedonia experienced a reduction in its trade deficit, which declined to $295 million compared to $388 million in the same month the previous year. Exports witnessed a 21% increase year-on-year, reaching $717 million, whereas imports grew at a slightly slower rate, 20%, totaling $1,181 million. Over the entire year, the trade deficit amounted to $3,504 million. Imports increased by 9% from the previous year, reaching $13,048 million, mainly due to a rise in the procurement of food and live animals (10.8%), as well as animal and vegetable oils, fats, and waxes (23.6%), chemical and related products (9.3%), and various manufactured items (9%). Concurrently, exports rose by 7.4% to $9,050 million, driven by greater demand for beverages and tobacco (38.2%), machinery and transport equipment (16.1%), miscellaneous manufactured items (3.6%), and raw materials (9.1%).
