Eurozone Services Momentum Eases as HCOB PMI Slips to 51.6 in January

The euro area’s services sector lost a little steam at the start of the year, as the HCOB Eurozone Services PMI edged down to 51.6 in January 2026, from 52.4 previously. Despite the moderation, the index remains above the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, signaling that activity in the region’s key services industry is still growing, albeit at a slower pace.

Both the latest reading and the prior one refer to January 2026 data, with the updated figure published on 4 February 2026. The slight downgrade suggests a softer pace of expansion than initially indicated, pointing to a cooling—but not a reversal—of services sector momentum across the currency bloc.

For investors and policymakers, the revised PMI underscores a more cautious outlook for the eurozone’s services-driven growth, reinforcing the need to watch upcoming data closely for signs of whether this slowdown is temporary or the start of a more sustained easing in activity.
