Romania Current Account Deficit Narrows in April

Romania’s current account deficit narrowed to EUR 2,684 million in April 2026, down from EUR 2,947 million in the same month of the previous year. This was the largest shortfall recorded in four months. The improvement was driven by a slightly smaller goods deficit, which declined to EUR 2,755 million from EUR 2,763 million, and by a wider surplus in services, which rose to EUR 1,170 million from EUR 995 million. The primary income deficit also decreased, falling to EUR 951 million from EUR 1,040 million. By contrast, the secondary income deficit edged up to EUR 148 million from EUR 140 million.

Over the first four months of the year, Romania’s current account deficit narrowed to EUR 7,981 million, from EUR 9,101 million in the same period a year earlier.
