New Zealand Building Permits Fall 13.8% In June

In June, the total number of building permits issued in New Zealand experienced a seasonally adjusted decrease of 13.8 percent compared to the previous month, according to Statistics New Zealand. This follows a 1.9 percent decline in May.

In June, a total of 2,178 new dwelling consents were granted. These included 1,122 stand-alone houses, 896 townhouses, flats, and units, 85 retirement village units, and 75 apartments.

For the year ending June 2024, the actual number of new dwellings consented was 33,627, representing a 24 percent drop from the year ending June 2023.

The total annual value of non-residential building work consented stood at $9.1 billion, reflecting a 9.6 percent decrease from the previous year ending June 2023.
