Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba has announced his intention to visit the United States at the earliest possible opportunity in order to present a comprehensive trade proposal to President Donald Trump. During a parliamentary session on Monday, Ishiba emphasized his plan to urge President Trump to reconsider the proposed 24% tariff on Japanese imports. The U.S. administration's decision to impose a 25% levy on automotive imports, coupled with a reciprocal 24% tariff on other Japanese goods, poses a significant threat to Japan's export-driven economy. Analysts caution that these measures could reduce GDP growth by as much as 0.8%. Ishiba clarified that Japan does not intend to simply seek an exemption; rather, it will propose a detailed package addressing U.S. trade concerns.
