Slovakia Construction Output Growth Slows in May

Slovakia’s construction output increased by 6.8% year-on-year in May 2026, down from a 13.2% rise in April. This was the slowest pace of growth since January, reflecting a moderation in domestic construction activity (7.8% vs 17.7% in April). The slowdown was visible in new construction, reconstruction and modernization (7.5% vs 20.4%), as well as in repair and maintenance work (11.0% vs 13.2%).

Building construction also lost momentum (11.7% vs 18.0%), while civil engineering output swung into decline (-1.1% vs 17.1%). By contrast, construction activity abroad was broadly unchanged from a year earlier, following a sharp 14.9% contraction in April.

Despite the overall cooling, May still posted the fifth-strongest year-on-year growth rate of the past 14 years. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, however, construction output fell by 2.9% in May. Over the first five months of 2026, construction production was up 11% compared with the same period a year earlier.
