Austria’s industrial production increased by 0.7% year-on-year in May 2026, picking up slightly from a downwardly revised 0.1% gain in April. The improvement was driven primarily by a rebound in the construction sector, which grew 3.0% after contracting 2.4% in the previous month, while industrial activity expanded at a more modest pace of 0.1% compared with 0.8% in April.
Among the main industrial groupings, consumer durables recorded the strongest growth, rising 11.5% after a 5.1% increase in April, and output of intermediate goods also accelerated, up 2.0% versus 0.4% previously. In contrast, energy production declined 4.0% after a 1.2% increase, capital goods output turned negative at -1.7% following 1.3% growth, and production of consumer non-durables fell further, down 3.0% compared with a 2.8% decrease in the prior month.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production rose 0.3% in May.
