Latvia Retail Sales Growth Accelerates

Retail sales in Latvia rose by 4.8% year-on-year in June 2026, picking up from an upwardly revised 3.6% increase in May. Growth strengthened in both food and non-food categories, with food sales advancing 4.6% (vs 2.9% in May) and non-food sales up 5.9% (vs 5.5%).

Within the non-food segment, sales continued to improve in non-specialized stores (2.2% vs 1.9%), as well as across several specialized retail categories. Turnover increased notably for electrical household appliances (9.6% vs 5.7%), construction materials and sanitary equipment (11.8% vs 9.0%), cultural and sporting goods (9.0% vs 4.4%), and clothing, footwear, and leather goods (6.4% vs 0.3%).

Mail-order and online sales posted particularly strong growth, accelerating to 18.6% from 12.3% in May. Meanwhile, sales of automotive fuel rebounded, rising 2.4% after a 2.1% decline in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, retail sales increased by 0.6% in June, up from an upwardly revised 0.1% gain in May.
