Market Analysis and Insights: Gold is trading around $4,606, close to the $4,600 psychological level after reaching a fresh three-month high of approximately $4,696 earlier this week. The metal has entered a consolidation phase after a strong rally, with investors reducing large positions ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech. The fundamental backdrop remains supportive because concerns about U.S. fiscal conditions, geopolitical instability and central-bank demand continue to encourage safe-haven buying. However, elevated U.S. inflation has lifted Treasury yields and reduced expectations for aggressive monetary easing, creating a counterweight. Short-term bias is cautiously bullish above $4,574, but the market is vulnerable to a deeper correction if $4,600 fails decisively. Fundamental Analysis: Gold's fundamental outlook remains supported by strong demand for defensive assets and growing concerns about the long-term value of fiat currencies. The metal's latest rally has been helped by concerns surrounding U.S. fiscal conditions, Treasury-market operations and the dollar's purchasing power. Central-bank and exchange-traded-fund demand has also provided an important underlying source of buying. Geopolitical risks remain elevated, particularly because the conflict involving Iran continues to affect energy markets and inflation expectations. Although crude oil has moved below its earlier extreme levels, the ongoing disruption around the Strait of Hormuz keeps the risk of renewed energy inflation alive. Such an environment is generally constructive for gold because investors often use the metal as a hedge against geopolitical instability, inflation surprises and financial-market stress. However, higher real yields remain a significant risk. Gold produces no interest income, so rising bond yields increase the opportunity cost of holding bullion. This explains why the metal has struggled to extend its rally immediately after reaching the $4,696 high. The next major fundamental question is whether central banks can reduce inflation without causing a significant global slowdown. A soft economic landing combined with higher rates would be less supportive for gold, while renewed inflation, recession concerns or geopolitical escalation would strengthen demand for the metal. The U.S. monetary-policy outlook is currently the most important short-term driver. The Federal Reserve has kept its policy rate at 3.50%–3.75%, but inflation remains considerably above the 2% target. July headline PCE inflation held at 3.7% year over year, while core PCE remained at 3.3%. Monthly PCE increased 0.2%, while personal income rose 0.4% and consumer spending increased 0.2%. These figures demonstrate that inflation has not yet returned to a level that would make rapid monetary easing comfortable for policymakers. Markets have therefore become more cautious about September rate-cut expectations, while some traders are even considering the possibility of another rate increase. Higher U.S. yields and a stronger dollar can pressure gold because investors can obtain greater returns from interest-bearing assets. At the same time, fiscal concerns are creating an unusual situation in which gold can remain well supported even when yields are elevated. Treasury plans to increase buybacks of longer-term debt have contributed to debate over the future structure of the U.S. bond market and the dollar's purchasing power. Fed Chair Warsh's Jackson Hole speech is therefore a major catalyst: a hawkish message emphasizing inflation risks could push gold toward deeper consolidation, while a dovish message emphasizing employment or financial stability could reignite the bullish trend. H4 Technical Analysis – Momentum, Volatility and Moving Averages At $4,606, gold is sitting almost directly on its most important near-term psychological level. The broader price structure remains bullish following the breakout above $4,500 and the subsequent move toward $4,696, but the inability to hold the weekly high has created a short-term consolidation pattern. The first major resistance zone is $4,650–$4,700, with $4,696 representing the recent swing high. A decisive H4 close above $4,700 would confirm renewed buyer dominance and expose $4,750, followed by the broader $4,769–$4,800 region. On the downside, $4,600 is the immediate battlefield, followed by $4,574–$4,520. A sustained break below $4,520 would indicate that the recent rally is undergoing a deeper correction, with $4,450 becoming the next important support. The medium-term structure remains constructive while price holds above the $4,500 area. Current market analysis identifies $4,700–$4,769 as the principal resistance zone and $4,574, followed by $4,520 as important support levels.
