U.S. Consumer Prices Rise In Line With Estimates In July

A highly anticipated report released by the Labor Department on Wednesday confirmed that consumer prices in the U.S. increased as projected for July.

The Labor Department announced that its consumer price index rose by 0.2 percent in July, following a slight decline of 0.1 percent in June. This modest rise in consumer prices aligned with forecasts.

Core consumer prices, which exclude volatile food and energy costs, also saw a 0.2 percent increase in July after a 0.1 percent uptick in June. This rise in core consumer prices similarly matched economist predictions.

However, the report indicated a slight easing in the annual rate of consumer price growth, which decelerated to 2.9 percent in July from 3.0 percent in June. Economists had anticipated that the growth rate would remain steady.

The annual rate of core consumer price growth also experienced a minor decline, slipping to 3.2 percent in July from 3.3 percent in June, consistent with expectations.
