Japan Consumer Sentiment Notches 2-Year Low

In March 2025, Japan's consumer confidence index fell to 34.1, following a revised figure of 34.8 in February. This marks the fourth consecutive month of decline, reaching its lowest point since March 2023. The decline was observed across various indicators, including overall livelihood, which decreased to 30.9 from 31.5 in February, income growth, which dropped to 38.8 from 39.5, and employment expectations, which declined to 39.2 from 40.9. Despite these declines, there was a slight increase in consumers' willingness to purchase durable goods, which rose to 27.3 from 27.1.
