Romania Trade Gap Widens

Romania's trade deficit expanded to EUR 2.87 billion in February 2025, compared to EUR 2.18 billion in February of the previous year. Imports experienced a 6.3% increase year-over-year, reaching a three-month peak of EUR 10.77 billion. This growth in imports was due to significant purchases from both EU countries, which rose by 5.2%, and non-EU countries, which saw a 9.2% increase. On the other hand, exports declined by 0.7% to EUR 7.90 billion, primarily due to a 4.7% reduction in sales to EU countries, despite a robust 10% rise in deliveries to non-EU countries. Over the first two months of the year, the trade deficit enlarged to EUR 5.62 billion, up from EUR 4.16 billion during the same period in 2024. This was driven by an 8.2% growth in imports, which outpaced the modest 0.7% increase in exports.
