Belgium Trade Surplus Narrows in August

Belgium witnessed a trade surplus of EUR 1,018.8 million in August 2025, a decrease from the EUR 1,429.1 million recorded in August of the previous year. This reduction was primarily due to exports declining at a faster pace than imports. On a year-on-year basis, exports dropped by 29.1% to EUR 36,396.1 million, influenced by decreased shipments to both EU countries (-4.7%) and non-EU destinations (-8.9%). Conversely, imports fell by 5.2% to EUR 35,383.3 million, with purchases receding from EU countries by 5.5% and from non-EU countries by 4.8%. For the January to August period, Belgium reported a trade surplus of EUR 15,244.1 million, slightly down from the EUR 15,810.1 million surplus recorded during the same timeframe in the previous year.
