Technical Outage Disrupts US Futures Trading

Futures for the three leading US stock indices hovered near the flatline on Friday, up until trading was disrupted by a technical outage at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The disruption stemmed from cooling system issues at a data center in the Chicago vicinity. Traders, returning to the market post-Thanksgiving for a shortened trading session, are encountering typically below-average volumes, a situation that the outage may further amplify, possibly increasing market volatility. No significant economic announcements are slated for release today. In November overall, the S&P 500 has declined by 0.4%, positioned to record its first monthly downturn since April. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones has decreased by 0.3%, and the Nasdaq has seen a drop exceeding 2%, ending a seven-month streak of gains due to early-month apprehensions regarding inflated AI valuations.
