The Reserve Bank of New Zealand will increase the number of its monetary policy meetings from seven to eight per year starting in 2027. The move is designed to bring its schedule more in line with major central banks and to give policymakers greater flexibility in responding to changing economic conditions. At present, the central bank issues full Monetary Policy Statements at selected meetings, with shorter updates at others. The revised timetable will align the RBNZ with peers such as the Reserve Bank of Australia and the Bank of England, both of which meet eight times a year.
