Italian Growth Accelerates as Q4 2025 GDP Expands 0.3% QoQ

Italy’s economy gained modest momentum at the end of 2025, with gross domestic product rising 0.3% quarter-over-quarter in the fourth quarter, up from a 0.1% increase in the previous three-month period. The figures, updated on 30 January 2026, highlight a slight but notable improvement in the pace of economic activity.

In the third quarter of 2025, Italian GDP had inched ahead by just 0.1% compared with the second quarter, but the stronger 0.3% gain in the fourth quarter points to a firmer finish to the year. On a quarter-over-quarter basis, the latest data shows the economy expanding three times faster than in the prior period, although growth remains measured overall.

The quarter-over-quarter comparison means the “actual” fourth-quarter figure of 0.3% reflects the change from the third to the fourth quarter of 2025, while the “previous” 0.1% reflects the change from the second to the third quarter. This step-up in growth may offer some reassurance that activity is stabilizing, even if the broader trajectory remains dependent on domestic demand and external conditions.
