UK Construction Decline Eases in December, Signalling Tentative Stabilisation

United Kingdom construction output continued to contract in December 2025, but at a slower pace than the month before, according to the latest data released on 12 February 2026. Month-over-month output fell by 0.5% in December, easing from a 0.8% decline recorded in November 2025.

The figures, measured on a month-over-month basis, compare the change in December’s activity with November’s, while the previous reading reflected the change in November versus October. The smaller drop suggests that while the sector remains under pressure, the rate of contraction is moderating toward the end of the year.

Although still in negative territory, the December reading may point to an early sign of stabilisation in the UK construction sector, with investors and policymakers likely to watch upcoming releases closely for confirmation of any emerging trend.
