Slovakia’s Consumer Prices Rebound in January, Snapping December Deflation

Slovakia’s consumer price index (CPI) swung back into positive territory in January 2026, rising 1.8% month-on-month after a 0.3% decline in December 2025, according to data updated on 16 February 2026. The move marks a sharp turnaround from the previous month’s deflationary reading.

The January figure is based on a month‑over‑month comparison, measuring price changes in January relative to December. By contrast, the previous indicator captured the change in December prices versus November, when the CPI had fallen by 0.3%. The latest data signal a renewed pick‑up in price pressures at the start of 2026, ending the brief period of declining consumer prices seen at the close of last year.

The reversal from negative to solidly positive monthly inflation will be closely watched by market participants and policymakers, as it may influence expectations for the path of inflation and monetary conditions in Slovakia over the coming months.
