Slovak Inflation Edges Up to 4.0% YoY in January, Halting Prior Deceleration

Slovakia’s consumer price growth picked up slightly at the start of 2026, with the January year-over-year Consumer Price Index (CPI) rising to 4.0%, up from 3.8% in December 2025. The latest data, updated on 16 February 2026, indicate a modest reacceleration in inflation after a period of gradual easing.

Both the current and previous readings are based on year-over-year comparisons, measuring price changes in each month against the same month a year earlier. The move from 3.8% to 4.0% suggests that, while inflationary pressures had been slowing into the end of 2025, that deceleration has paused, and price growth has firmed slightly moving into January 2026.

For policymakers and markets, the uptick in Slovakia’s annual inflation rate may prompt renewed attention to the underlying drivers of price growth, as well as to the implications for real incomes and interest rate expectations in the months ahead.
