Speculators Deepen Net Short in U.S. Wheat Futures, CFTC Data Show

Speculative traders increased their bearish bets on U.S. wheat, with net positions falling further into negative territory, according to the latest data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

The CFTC figures, updated on 13 February 2026, show that speculative net positions in wheat declined to -71.3K contracts, compared with -65.5K previously. The widening net short position indicates that non-commercial traders, such as hedge funds and other speculators, have grown more pessimistic on wheat price prospects relative to the prior reporting period.

The shift suggests that speculative market participants are positioning for continued weakness or limited upside in U.S. wheat futures, reinforcing a bearish tone in the market as of the latest reporting date.
