Japan Machine Tool Orders Up 24.2% in February

Japan’s machine tool orders rose 24.2% year-on-year to JPY 146,784 million in February 2026, coming in below both market expectations and January’s 25.3% increase. The overall growth was largely supported by a 29.8% jump in overseas orders, which climbed to JPY 109,583 million, while domestic orders advanced 10.2% to JPY 37,201 million.

On a month-on-month basis, total machine tool orders edged up 0.8% in February, rebounding from an 8.2% drop in the previous month. For the first two months of the year, cumulative orders increased 24.8% from a year earlier to JPY 292,363 million, with foreign demand up 32% and domestic orders rising 6.2%.
