Hungary’s Car Registrations Growth Cools Sharply in April

Hungary’s car registration growth slowed markedly in April 2026, with the year-over-year change easing to 9.70%, down from a robust 32.20% recorded in March 2026. The figures, updated on 27 May 2026, highlight a significant deceleration in the pace at which new vehicles are being registered in the country.

Both the current and previous indicators reflect year-over-year comparisons, measuring each month’s change against the same month a year earlier. While March showed exceptionally strong expansion, April’s more moderate growth suggests that the earlier surge in registrations may have been temporary or driven by one-off factors such as base effects or front-loaded demand.

Despite the slowdown, car registrations in April remain higher than a year ago, indicating continued, albeit more measured, momentum in Hungary’s automotive market as 2026 progresses.
