El Salvador Trade Deficit Widens in June

El Salvador's trade deficit widened to $1,030.96 million in June 2026, up from $856.96 million in the same month a year earlier. Imports increased by 16.5% year-on-year to $1,628.1 million, driven by higher purchases from Central America (4.7%), particularly from Costa Rica, and from Panama (63.5%). Exports also rose, but at a slower pace of 10.5%, reaching $597.2 million, supported by stronger shipments to the UK (38%), Ecuador (25.2%), and Mexico (24.2%). Over the January–June 2026 period, the trade deficit expanded to $5,919.1 million, compared with $5,302.4 million in the same period a year earlier.
