Baltic Dry Index at 3-Week High

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk freight index, which tracks rates for ships transporting dry bulk commodities, rose for a fourth consecutive session on Tuesday, gaining about 3.3% to reach a three-week high of 2,936 points.

The capesize index, covering vessels that typically carry 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, jumped 4.7% to 4,778 points, its highest level since June 5. The panamax index, which reflects rates for ships hauling about 60,000 to 70,000 tons of coal or grain, advanced 2.4% to 2,187 points, the strongest reading since July 20.

Among smaller vessels, the supramax index edged up 0.2% to 1,613 points.
