USD/CHF

The USD/CHF pair continued its upward trajectory for the fifth consecutive day, trading near 0.8191 and testing its multi-week high last seen at the end of July. This sustained rise is largely attributed to strong demand for the US dollar, which remains a safe-haven asset driven by yields, as financial markets await the Federal Reserve's upcoming monetary policy announcement. With the dollar index hovering near a two-week high of 99.60, market participants' expectations of a 25-basis-point rate hike – the first tightening move by the central bank since 2023 – have risen sharply. Adding to these expectations, persistent global inflation risks, stemming from rising energy costs in the Middle East and higher oil prices, have pushed US Treasury yields higher, ensuring that overall monetary conditions remain under control and bolstering the dollar's relative strength. Conversely, the Swiss franc remains particularly vulnerable to persistent downward pressure. Switzerland’s low inflation rate allows the Swiss National Bank to maintain its benchmark interest rate at 0%, a significant blow to the franc. This stark macroeconomic divergence has resulted in a substantial and persistent interest rate differential between the US and Switzerland, encouraging institutional investors to use the Swiss franc as the preferred funding currency for speculative interest rate differentials. Consequently, capital continues to flow from the Swiss franc into higher-yielding dollar-denominated assets, providing sustained structural support for the USD/CHF pair. While both currencies have historically served as safe havens during periods of geopolitical instability, the dominant yield advantage and the Federal Reserve’s aggressive pricing policy continue to dictate near-term price trends. Technically, the daily chart shows a strong uptrend, with the spot price holding above key trend indicators, including the 50-, 100-, and 200-day simple moving averages, which are clustered in a support zone between approximately 0.79 and 0.81. Momentum indicators also point to increasing upward momentum, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovering around 64 and converging along the ascending moving average divergence line. While the pair is approaching the immediate overhead resistance level, a pause in momentum could lead to a temporary consolidation. The immediate technical resistance lies at the psychological level of 0.8200, and a decisive break with significant volume would pave the way for a subsequent move towards the supply ceiling near 0.8350. On the downside, the initial structural support lies at the 50-day simple moving average around 0.8101, followed by the 100-day moving average around 0.8016 and the 200-day moving average around 0.7938, ensuring that any corrective pullbacks will be well contained as long as the broader overall trend continues.
