US President Donald Trump targeted initiatives by tech industry executives to deliberately slow the pace of neural-network development and impose strict government barriers. Commenting on Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s public statement on Truth Social, the US leader stressed that the only protection needed against technological threats is strong government power: “The only way to control the situation or provide the protection AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (high IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the US has that in spades!” Trump added that his administration already has huge regulatory and legal levers to restrain companies from reckless moves, including Amodei himself, who is “pretending to be the perfect little angel right now.”

The White House chief warned of a large “crazy conspiracy” against the development of artificial intelligence and data centers, arguing that attempts to freeze progress would only benefit China. The president’s remarks escalated a long-running dispute between the administration and Anthropic’s leadership, disagreements that first surfaced during tensions around Iran over debates about the safety of military use cases for algorithms. Trump again rejected the notion that AI poses an existential threat to humanity, saying that US dominance in the technology race ensures national superiority on the world stage.

The debate was sparked by Dario Amodei’s recent statement that the exponential growth in large-model capabilities is outpacing humans’ ability to control such systems, and that labs need to take a coordinated pause and “use the gained time” to develop protective protocols. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman backed Amodei’s position, but the calls from top executives met strong skepticism in the financial community. In particular, famed investor Michael Burry criticized the rhetoric of high-tech leaders, suggesting that talk of “dangerous superintelligence” is intended to inflate valuations ahead of IPOs and to obscure signs of a real slowdown in returns from AI investments.
