Canadian Exports Fall for 2nd Month

In March 2025, Canada's total exports experienced a slight decline of 0.2% from the previous month, amounting to CAD 69.9 billion. This follows a significant 5.4% decrease in February, marking the lowest export levels since November. This downturn in exports aligns with the recent introduction of new US tariffs on Canadian products. Notably, exports to the United States fell sharply by 6.6%, though this was nearly counterbalanced by a robust 24.8% surge in exports to other nations. Key increases were seen in shipments to the United Kingdom (primarily crude gold), the Netherlands and Hong Kong (both crude oil), and Germany (various products). Overall export decline was noted in 6 out of 11 product categories, including consumer goods (-4.2%), meat products (-10.8%), pharmaceutical products (-7%), and energy products (-2.2%).
