Australia’s Import Prices Rebound in Q4, Snapping Previous Quarter’s Decline

Australia’s import prices rose in the fourth quarter of 2025, reversing the decline seen in the prior three months and signaling a shift in external cost pressures for the economy.

The Import Price Index increased by 0.9% quarter-over-quarter in Q4 2025, following a 0.4% quarter-over-quarter decline in Q3 2025. The latest data, updated on 29 January 2026, show that imported goods and services became more expensive on average compared with the previous quarter, after having become cheaper in the third quarter.

On a comparison basis, the “actual” figure reflects the change in the current quarter (Q4 2025) versus the previous quarter (Q3 2025), while the “previous” figure captures the Q3 2025 change relative to Q2 2025. The move from -0.4% to +0.9% suggests a notable turnaround in import price dynamics heading into the end of 2025.
