Swedish Household Lending Growth Edges Up to 2.9% in December

Household lending in Sweden accelerated modestly at the end of 2025, with year-over-year growth ticking up to 2.9% in December from 2.8% in November. The latest figure, released on 29 January 2026, reflects lending activity compared with December a year earlier.

The November reading, published earlier and based on a comparison with the same month in the previous year, had marked a slowdown to 2.8%. December’s slight uptick to 2.9% suggests a marginal strengthening in household borrowing momentum as the year closed, though growth remains contained on an annual basis.

Both the current and previous indicators use a year-over-year framework, comparing each month’s change to the same month a year before. This allows observers to track how household credit dynamics in Sweden are evolving over time without the noise of short-term, month-to-month fluctuations.
