Japan’s Industrial Output Stabilizes in December, Narrowing Decline to Just 0.1%

Japan’s industrial production showed signs of stabilizing at the end of 2025, with output in December edging down just 0.1% month-over-month. The latest data, updated on 29 January 2026, marks a notable improvement from November 2025, when industrial production fell by 2.7% compared with October.

The month-over-month figures indicate that while the sector has not yet returned to growth, the sharp contraction seen in November has largely abated. The “actual” reading for December reflects the change in output from November to December 2025, whereas the “previous” figure captured the change from October to November 2025. The near-flat December result suggests that the industrial sector may be moving toward a more stable footing after a period of volatility.
