Chile’s Retail Sales Growth Cools to 4.5% YoY in December, Easing From November Surge

Chile’s retail sector saw a moderation in growth at the end of 2025, with retail sales rising 4.5% year-over-year in December, down from a stronger 6.2% annual increase recorded in November 2025. The latest data, updated on 30 January 2026, indicate that while consumer activity remains in positive territory, momentum has eased heading into the new year.

Both November and December figures are measured against the same months a year earlier, highlighting a slowdown in the pace of expansion rather than an outright reversal. The December reading suggests that, after a robust November, consumer demand cooled somewhat, which may reflect seasonal normalization or emerging caution among households.

The deceleration in year-over-year growth will be closely watched by analysts assessing the durability of Chile’s consumer-driven recovery. Although the retail sector continues to expand on an annual basis, the shift from 6.2% to 4.5% underscores a more measured growth environment as 2026 begins.
