Indonesia’s Trade Surplus Narrows Slightly in December to $2.52 Billion

Indonesia’s trade balance posted a surplus of $2.52 billion in December 2025, easing from a revised $2.66 billion surplus recorded in November 2025. The latest figures, updated on 2 February 2026, indicate a modest softening in external trade momentum at the end of the year.

While the country continues to maintain a solid trade surplus, the slight month-on-month decline may reflect shifting global demand conditions, pricing dynamics in key export commodities, or firmer import activity. The December result suggests that Indonesia’s external sector remained a net positive contributor to the economy, but with less strength than in the previous month.

Analysts and market participants are likely to watch subsequent releases to determine whether December’s moderation marks the start of a broader trend or a temporary adjustment in Indonesia’s trade performance.
